The German Air Force has spotted a manufacturing fault in the hull of Eurofighter Typhoon multirole fighter jet. The Defense Ministry ordered annual flying hours for each aircraft be halved due to the fuselage possibly becoming unstable.

The defect was discovered in the rear section of the aircraft’s hull, forcing the announcement of suspended delivery of the jets assembled at the EADS plant in Germany’s Manching, news website Spiegel Online reported.

HMAS Larrakia departed the port of Sandakan, Malaysian Borneo, on September 22, after a two-day stopover.

The Armidale Class Patrol Boat, with Attack 4 embarked, is one week into a six-week South East Asian Deployment.

After the necessary refueling and restoring at Sandakan, the crew took in some of the cultural sights on offer in the city that was made infamous by the WWII death marches undertaken by allied prisoners of war.

“Despite our short time in Sandakan, we managed to squeeze a fair bit in,” said Lieutenant Commander Dave McPherson, Attack Four’s Commanding Officer.

“The tour of the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the visit to the Sandakan Prisoner of War Memorial Gardens were by far the highlights of the visit,” he said.

The first Airbus A400M new generation airlifter for the Royal Malaysian Air Force is rapidly taking shape at the Airbus Defence and Space final assembly line in Seville, Spain. All the fully equipped major sections including the wing, tailplane, cockpit, fuselage and landing-gear have been joined ready for ground-testing. This aircraft will be delivered in the first quarter of 2015, followed by two more later in the year and the fourth and final aircraft in 2016.

The A400M can carry heavy and outsize loads over intercontinental distances at jet-like speeds while retaining true tactical capability to use short and unprepared runways, and can also act as an air-to-air refueller. The first group of Malaysian pilot trainees are already undergoing instruction at the Airbus Defence and Space International Training Centre and will be joined by maintenance engineers and technicians in the coming weeks.

KOTA KINABALU, (Sept 21) — Two forward bases to be located in Sabah waters will be completed by April next year, in a move to thwart all threats and strengthen security along Malaysian waters, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said one of the forward bases would be at a Petronas petroleum rig which was no longer in use, and its construction was expected to cost about RM230 million.

The other forward base, costing RM200 million, would be at the Bunga Mas Lima ship.

“I want to announce today that arising from my talks with Petronas, there will be two forward bases in Sabah waters by April next year. This involves an oil rig which is no longer used while the other involves the Bunga Mas Lima ship,” said Hishammuddin.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Penampang Division Umno Delegates meeting here Sunday.

France has destroyed an Islamic State (IS) logistics depot in its first airstrikes against the militant group in Iraq.

President Francois Hollande said Rafale fighter jets, accompanied by support planes, "entirely destroyed" the depot in the north of the country.

Iraq's military spokesman said four morning airstrikes killed dozens of fighters.

"Other operations will follow in the coming days with the same goal - to weaken this terrorist organisation and come to the aid of the Iraqi authorities," Mr Hollande said. "There are always risks in taking up a responsibility. I reduced the risks to a minimum."

Washington (AFP) - Two Russian fighters entered a US "air defense identification zone" two days ago and were intercepted by American F-22 jets near Alaska, military officers said.

The incursion on Wednesday was followed by a second incident on Thursday involving two Russian long-range bombers, which flew into Canada's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) and were intercepted by two Canadian F-18 jets, officers said.

In both cases the Russian aircraft flew out of the area without incident.

The Russian warplanes "never entered US sovereign air space" or Canadian air space, said Major Jamie Humphries, a spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

Warplanes: Chinese Engines Travel A Trail Of Tears

Chinese made WS-10 engines are suppose to replace the Russian AL-31FN engines in powering China's front line fighters. ( Photo: Indian Defence Forum)
By: Strategypage (www.strategypage.com)

China continues to have problems with its locally produced military jet engines. The biggest problems are with the WS-10 series, which was designed and produced in China and the government has been pressuring the aircraft manufacturers to use Chinese made engines like this instead of Russian imports. This has not been working out as the government wants. For example, the new Chinese carrier fighter, the J-15, is supposed to have a more powerful Chinese made engine so that it can carry more weight using the ski jump deck on the new Chinese carrier. The ski jump is a cheaper and less complex take off alternative to the steam catapult. One disadvantage of the ski jump deck is that it cannot launch aircraft as heavy as a catapult can.
