A third Australian warship has arrived in the Coral Sea to monitor a Russian naval fleet that is heading towards the country to reportedly 'spy on' the G20 summit.

A defence spokesperson confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that HMAS Sirius ‘has been positioned’ alongside the four-strong Russian fleet that is led by a guided missile cruiser and followed by destroyer Marshal Shaposhnikov.

A tug boat called Fotiy Krylov and supply tanker Boris Butoma round out the second half of the Russian ships.

Australia already has two navy ships watching the Russian boats but on Friday morning a Defence spokesperson confirmed: ‘HMAS Sirius has been positioned to support HMA ships Parramatta and Stuart, which are currently conducting maritime surveillance patrols.’

The US president has announced Washington’s and Beijing’s agreement to avoid military confrontation by reducing Air Force- and Navy-related incidents. Barack Obama secured the deal after long talks with his China’s Xi Jinping at the APEC summit.

The sides resolved to notify each other better of their major military activities, such as war games, and establish rules of behavior for military encounters at sea and in the air.

“There are important differences that we have both practically as well as our vision for our respective countries and our conduct in foreign policy,” Barack Obama said, adding that the two countries are working together whenever they can.

“When the US and China are able to work together effectively, the whole world benefits,” Obama said.

By Neville Spykerman (thestar)

PETALING JAYA: Despite the submarine force being established only a decade ago, the training and capabilities of Malaysian submariners are comparable to other countries, says Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“We can be proud of what they’ve achieved in such a short time,” he said after receiving his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian at the Defence Ministry here. “And now, we have to think about how we can raise their capabilities ever further.”

Hishammuddin said when he visited Sepanggar Naval base in Sabah on Monday, Le Drian was “truly impressed by the capability of our Scorpene submarines and the submariners”.

He said their discussion also centred around global and emerging threats, including the Islamic State (IS), along with assets Malaysia might need to meet these challenges.
