BATU PAHAT: A helicopter belonging to the Armed Forces (ATM) was forced to make an emergency landing at a forested area near the Bekok damn here due to technical difficulties.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Din Ahmad said that there were four crewmen and a pilot on board the vehicle when the incident took place at around 9.15pm on Thursday.

Chinese ships patrolling an area contested by Malaysia are likely to cause more anxiety across Southeast Asia and risk the ire of a country that has long sought to downplay strategic concerns generated by China's rising power.
Three Chinese ships on Sunday patrolled the James Shoal in the South China Sea, about 80km off Sarawak on Borneo island, which Beijing counts as the southernmost part of its territory. Soldiers on board swore to safeguard China's sovereignty, in the latest sign of Beijing's increasing territorial assertiveness in the waters.

South Korea plans to finalise the purchase of 40 next-generation F-35 jet fighters from US aerospace giant Lockheed Martin later this year, Seoul’s military procurement agency said.

“We will… push to sign the contract in the third quarter… after testing and further negotiations,” Jung Kwang-Sun, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration’s aircraft department director, told reporters in a briefing late Monday.

The case has been smouldering months: the sale of six Tiger HAP (Support Protection) attack helicopters used in Malaysia, which for a long time has showed its desire to strengthen its close fire support capability. Taken directly Army Light Aviation (ALAT) stocks and delivered to "Standard 1" or the one currently used by France in overseas operations, these helicopters have been delivered from the beginning of the year 2014. But the signing of the sale contract has not yet materialised.

Kepala Satuan Angkatan Laut Laksamana Marsetio berencana membeli kapal selam kelas Kilo dari Rusia.

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) will have more aircraft this year, as it upgrades its capability to respond to disasters.
Lt. Gen. Lauro Catalino Dela Cruz, PAF commanding general, said 21 Huey helicopters will be delivered this year, with seven to 10 expected to arrive in the first half of the year.

WASHINGTON — The most striking aspect of the exchanges between senior Pentagon officials and lawmakers Tuesday was the rhetoric about the so-called “Asia pivot.”

The two sides might not have such a full-blown disconnect that it will hamper policy creation and fund allocation regarding an increased US focus in China’s backyard. But, in public at least, the executive and legislative branches have emphasized different issues.

As they did for several hours Tuesday morning before the House Armed Services Committee, Pentagon officials used government-speak to describe the Obama administration’s “pivot” away from the Middle East and toward the Asia-Pacific region.

Malaysia to set up marine corps, naval base close to James shoal

Malaysia is to set up a marine corps and establish a naval base close to waters claimed by China, Defence Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said in a statement on 10 October.

According to the statement, the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base will be established at Bintulu on the South China Sea (SCS) to protect the surrounding area and oil reserves.
