France asserted on Wednesday that it was willing to provide an industrial cooperation with Indonesia should the Dassault Rafale jet fighter be selected to modernize the Indonesian Air Force. French Ambassador to Indonesia Corinne Breuzé said that France was open to all cooperation possibilities involving French aircraft maker Dassault Aviation and state-owned aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI). (Foto: Rentaka) Oleh: Malik Saedon (rentaka.weebly.com) Meskipun TDM telah lama melahirkan keperluan untuk keupayaan helikopter penyerang, keperluan tersebut tidak pernah dipenuhi kerrana terdapat keperluan yang lebih mendesak disamping PUTD masih jumlah muda usia penubuhannya. Pun begitu harapan TDM tidak dihampakan apabila kerajaan membeli sejumlah 11 buah helikopter Agusta A109M yang dioptimakan untuk tugas pengawasan medan dan tugas kawalan dan perintah. Meskipun boleh dilengkapi dengan pod mesingan dan roket, helikopter PUTD tidak dilengkapi dengan sistem persenjataan tersebut. Terdapat spekulasi bahawa berat sistem pengawasan serta penderia elektro-optik yang dipasang pada helikopter A109M membataskan bebanan tambahan yang boleh dibawa terutamanya sistem persenjataan. Tambahan pula, keupayaan pengawasan serta sistem komunikasinya yang canggih menjadikannya satu aset pengganda kuasa dalam keupayaan tempur TDM. Pun begitu, pencerobohan kumpulan bersenjata daripada kepulauan Mindanao telah mengubah segala- galanya dalam sekelip mata. Meskipun bantuan rapat udara diberikan secara berterusan oleh pesawat pejuang TUDM, operasi pasukan keselamatan seringkali dilakukan tanpa bantuan tembakan secara langsung daripada udara. Bukan itu sahaja, helikopter pasukan keselamatan juga tidak dilengkapi dengan sebarang keupayaan ofensif untuk mempertahankan diri sekiranya diserang musuh. Untuk itu, sejumlah helikopter milik PUTD mula dipasang dengan mesingan gatling M134D berkaliber 7.62mm keluaran firma Dillon Aero daripada Amerika. Mesingan ini mempunyai enam laras dan beroperasi menggunakan konsep gatling. Oleh itu ia memungkinkan mesingan ini mempunyai kadar tembakan yang sangat tinggi iaitu kira- kira 3,000 butir peluru seminit atau 50 butir peluru sesaat. Kadar tembakan yang tinggi adalah penting bagi mesingan yang dipasang pada pesawat kerana ia memberi keupayaan untuk jurutembak menembak sasaran dengan jumlah tembakan yang tinggi dalam jangkamasa yang singkat terutamanya ketika pesawat bergerak laju untuk menidakkan musuh peluang untuk membidik senjatanya ke arah pesawat dengan tepat. The Malaysian government announced 26 deals worth $2.5 million during the Langkawi International Marine and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) this week. Upon closer examination, however, only seven were aerospace-related, and only two of these were firm contracts. However, exhibitors polled by AIN declared themselves satisfied with the show, because a large number of senior military officers visited the event. LIMA coincided with a meeting ofASEAN defense ministers, accompanied by their military staffs. Also, two conferences at LIMA attracted the chiefs of air forces and navies from about 20 countries. Thales has delivered the first of two further AMASCOS mission systems to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). Thales said the AMASCOS was to support the conversion of four RMAF's Beech 200 aircraft to a highly-capable maritime surveillance platform, due to enter service next year. It said the AMASCOS delivered an effective maritime surveillance, airborne maritime patrol and ground surveillance capability. "Its modular and flexible design can accommodate a number of high-definition sensors (optical, radar, acoustic, electronic support measures) and integrate the data into a comprehensive yet easy to operate maritime situational awareness picture. SINGAPORE, March 19 (Bernama) -- Defence and security company Saab has received a letter of award from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) for the supply of an electronic surveillance payload (ESP) system. In a statement, Saab said the system would be used for training at Malaysia's Electronic Warfare Support Centre. It said the award would not only strengthen Saab ties with the RMAF but also signified its long-term commitment to Malaysia. Head of Saab in Malaysia Thomas Linden said the system would enable the RMAF to enhance its electronic warfare competence and capability. The Kongsberg Naval Strike Missile (NSM) anti-ship missile and MBDA VL Mica point defence missile system will equip Malaysia's Second Generation Patrol Vessel - Littoral Combat Ship (SGPV-LCS), Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) sources have toldIHS Jane's , although the selection of both systems is awaiting final confirmation by the Malaysian government. The choice of the two systems reflects a compromise between the RMN and the Malaysian government, which had been sparring over the choice of guided weapon systems for the SGPV-LCS programme since 2012. Maritime patrol and surveillance were the most prominent themes of this year's LIMA show, as big manufacturers jockeyed to promote their various solutions for the mission. Industry sources say that Kuala Lumpur is in the process of crystallising a requirement for six to eight long-range maritime patrol aircraft (MPA). The first of three Spanish Airbus C295 medium transport planes has been handed over to the Philippine Air Force. The hand over ceremonies took place in Seville, Spain, where the final assembly line is located. The plane is now being ferried to the Philippines, a press release from Airbus dated March 18 said. The Boeing Company, which again will have a big presence at the upcoming Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition, is committed to being in Malaysia for the long-haul by teaming up with industrial partners to bring about mutually beneficial outcomes.
