The meeting was aimed at further strengthening the existing bilateral relations, specifically in military and defence co-operation. Hishammuddin said he had made the request for a defence attache during his previous visit to the Lao capital on May 21 last year.
The Lao government had also approved a Lao MA Office to be set up in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, Hishammuddin said a Letter of Intent (LOI) was also signed by both ministries confirming mutual interest in strengthening bilateral and
defence cooperation between Malaysia and Laos.
Following the LOI, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation will be signed when Malaysia officially open the MA Office in Vientiane, he said.
Hishammuddin also attended a meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Tea Banh in Phnom Penh yesterday and will travel to to Hanoi, Vietnam later tonight to meet his Vietnamese counterpart, Defence Minister General Phung Quan Thanh.
