LAHAD DATU: A new brigade will be set up in Sabah to beef up security along its coast, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said.
The brigade will have three battalions, at its headquarters in Sandakan, Beluran and Kudat, he said adding this was recently approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"We expect the new bridge to start its operation at the end of this year as we would now start recruiting and there would be some construction work to prepare the battalions," he said.
Khalid said this after presenting 233 members of the police force the Pingat Kedaulatan Negara at the Marine Police complex.
"This is to show appreciation to the contribution, bravery and sacrificed during Ops Daulat," he said adding more will be accorded the medal in due course.
